Atelier Benoît Poirier d’Ambreville: The Ultimate Hair Experience

I recently relished in one of the most delightful experiences my head of hair has ever known – the deluxe treatment at Atelier Benoît Poirier d’Ambreville.

I am not what you would consider a hair enthusiast. Most of the time I let nature take its course without even running a comb through it, or just cut it all off when the weather gets hot. However, last week I had the rare opportunity to get a cut from one of the most renowned stylists in Santiago, known simply as Benoît.

I had few expectations upon entering the salon, unceremoniously located on the fifth floor of an apartment complex on Ernesto Pinto Lagarrigue. Hidden completely from prying eyes, you would have no idea from the looks of the grey concrete exterior that beyond the front door lies one of the most glamorous establishments in the entire city.

A first glimpse reveals high ceilings, giant windows overlooking Bellavista, and an ultra-stylish array of furniture, artwork, and facilities. 80 meters of elegant indulgence, the spa and boudoir made me feel as if I had stepped onto a quiet island in the middle of a hectic city.

This tranquility is no accident. Owner and Founder Benoît Poirier d’Ambreville knows full well that a feeling of relaxation free from distractions and interference is the foundation of quality, personalized service. Beginning his career in the world of beauty at the age of fifteen, Benoît has refined his technique over decades of experience in London, Milan, Paris, and New York. Here in Chile, he is the personal stylist for some of Chile’s most influential businessmen and women, politicians, and entertainers.

Imported directly from Japan, the chair is Benoît’s secret weapon.

My first stop was upstairs to the spa, where I first beheld the famous “chair”. With a price tag equal to that of an Audi, this machine was imported from Japan and serves as the kingly throne for all the spa’s visitors. Benoît’s assistant, Joel, gave me the star treatment with a shampoo and full scalp massage as I sat in the chair feeling like a million bucks.

I then went back down to the boudoir, where Benoît himself prepared to perform his art on my notoriously stubborn hair.

After giving it a scrutinizing glance, I could tell he was forming his attack strategy. Before doing anything, however, he kindly offered me a glass of wine and some cashews… definitely a first for me at a hair salon! I happily accepted.

The cut itself consisted of a series of techniques that I will never understand. Benoît has his own methods and I knew I was in good hands. Instead, we chatted casually about his travels and he told me stories of some of his more memorable clients in France and England. Most of the people who have cut my hair over the years have either been completely mute or impossibly boring, but Benoît is a chill guy with a warm personality and great sense of humor.

And I had no idea I was so handsome! I got up from the chair, looked in the mirror, and fell in love with myself all over again.

So if you’re ever in the neighborhood and want to truly relish an extraordinary full-service hair experience, be sure to check out the Atelier Benoît Poirier d’Ambreville website and make an appointment.
